“Our sole purpose: Bring people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ”

Email: ilcperryville@bigrivertel.net; Website: www.immanuel-perryville.org

Thank You …

Ø  To the Men’s Choir, for beautifying the 7:30 a.m. worship service last Sunday, August 29.

Congratulations & God’s Blessings! to the ILS Girls Volleyball A Team for winning the pre-season tournament at Saxony Lutheran High School last Saturday, August 28.

The Banner That Is Hanging on the pulpit side of the sanctuary was made for display at the Missouri District Lutheran Women's Missouri League Convention in Springfield Mo. The banner was designed and made by several ladies from LWML New Wells and will be displayed here for a few weeks.  The theme of the convention was Beautiful Feet-Led by God.  The floral design reminds us of God's beautiful creation.  The shades of red in the design help us reflect on the blood that Jesus shed for us.  The footprints set at the center of the cross show us to always return to the cross and experience the beautiful sacrifice of our Lord and Savior.

A New Adult Information Class led by Pastor Marks will begin next Sunday, September 12, 8:50-9:30 a.m. in Room 1.  The purpose of the class is to teach the Christian faith and describe what is unique about Lutheran beliefs.  It will be informal and anyone is invited to come.  Upon completing the class you may choose, if you wish, to become a communicant member of our congregation.  Please call the church office (547-8317) if you are interested.

Sunday School Teachers Needed & Sunday School Rally Planned

We will jumpstart Sunday School/Bible Study classes for all ages with a rally next Sunday, September 12, 9:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary.  We would like everyone who attends 7:30 a.m. worship, all Bible classes, and Sunday school, in other words the whole congregation to join us!!!  We want to encourage everyone to send their children to Sunday school and for everyone in the congregation to attend one of the Bible classes held at church or school during Sunday school, or to attend any of the other Bible classes that are held during the week.  This is your opportunity to grow in your knowledge about God not only on Sunday mornings, but all the time during the week.

Material for the teachers are available to pick up in the church library.

The Board of Parish Education needs Sunday school teachers for grades Kindergarten, 2, 5, 6, 7, and 8.  We would like two teachers per class so they can switch off every other week or every other month, whichever works best.  Please call the church office or speak with Lynne Kreutz (547-6296) or any of the other board members as soon as possible.

Please prayerfully consider teaching a Sunday School class.  We are in need of volunteers to teach!!!  God bless all of you and don't forget to mark your calendar and join us next Sunday. Lynne Kreutz, Board of Parish Education

Parish Planning Council Meeting will be on Monday, September 13, 7:00 p.m.  The Board of Stewardship will discuss their ongoing projects and the Endowment Committee will give an update.  We encourage anyone to attend.

15th Sunday after Pentecost Christ Jesus Has Paid the Cost of Discipleship for You (Deuteronomy 30:15–20; Philemon 1–21 St. Luke 14:25–35)  A disciple of Jesus Christ will “carry his own cross” (Luke 14:27) and follow the Lord through death into life. Discipleship is costly because it crucifies the old man with “all his own possessions” (Luke 14:33), in order to raise up the new man in Christ. The disciple disavows “his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life” (Luke 14:26), in deference to Christ. That way of the cross is impossible, except that Christ Jesus has already paid the cost. His cross is set before you as “life and prosperity, and death and adversity” (Deut. 30:15). Taking up His cross is to “choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him” (Deut. 30:19–20). To live that life in Christ is also to bear His cross in love, “that your goodness should not be as it were by compulsion, but of your own free will” (Philemon 14).

Pray for Us Calendar  for September 1-15 requests prayer for God’s work in Poland.  The Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Poland reports a baptized membership of more than 80,000 in 300 congregations and preaching stations.  From September 16-30 users are asked to remember outreach to Generation X and Y in the United States.  Generation X or “Baby Busters” were born between 1960 and 1979, and members of Gen Y or “Millennials” were born between 1980 and the present. The Pray for Us Calendar can be found on the Outreach table by the church library or on the internet at www.lcmsworldmissions.org/prayforus.

DVD Videos In Church Library  Check out what is there then check out what you desire to watch.  One that is available is “Saving Sarah Cain”. Heartwarming family drama based on the bestseller by Beverly Lewis. Successful, self-absorbed newspaper columnist Sarah Cain is stunned to learn of her estranged sister’s death—and shocked to learn that she’s been named guardian of the children. How can a big-city professional woman single-handedly raise five Amish orphans… and where?

Evangelism/Outreach Brief  Luke 14:25-35:  In His teaching Jesus said that salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again.  Jesus taught that we as His followers are like salt on earth to season and preserve good things.  Witnessing to Jesus is the best way that we can be like salt!

Lutherans for Life Items …

F  Life Quote  "We cannot rely on worldly institutions to fight our battles for us. Christians have been called to be hope and light to a fallen generation; so let’s speak God’s truth in love and care for the most vulnerable in our churches and society. May God bless your efforts to really make a difference!" Diane E. Schroeder, president of Lutherans For Life This "Life Quote" is from Lutherans For Life – www.lutheransforlife.org.

F  Life Thought  Life and death, they are before us every day. Our culture shouts, “Choose death as a solution to your problems.” The Lord says, “Choose life, that you and your offspring may live” (Deuteronomy 30:19). He who has chosen you in Christ promises that He “is your life and length of days” (30:20). We turn to Him for our help and our hope.

Ü  The Missouri Board of Directors is recommending and Immanuel is participating in a project for North Korea.  In the areas where LCMSA is working, there is a need for winter coats.  The school Chapel collections for August and September will be given to this project. Approximately five thousand (5,000) children are in need of coats.  A new coat can be purchased for $13.  Monies collected by October 1 will be sent on by the District for this project.
